Adult Hockey Lessons

Logitech Ice at San Jose has programs for adult hockey players of all levels. Hockey 1 (for true beginners) and 2 and 3, (for those with more experience) are offered to players looking to improve their basic skills. There are ten to twelve 1-hour sessions. New classes are on an ongoing basis.

For many, our Adult Hockey Classes are taken in preparation for play in our Logitech Ice Adult Hockey League (LIAHL).  Though it is not mandatory for new players to follow the entire class progression listed below, we do recommend taking all of the classes in order for the player to maximize his/her enjoyment in the sport.

Hockey 1 Beginner Class, Saturday 8:15-9:15am
Class will focus primarily on the basic skills.

Hockey 2 Intermediate Class, Saturday 9:25-10:25am
Basic skills will be covered, along with hockey concepts and positioning.

Hockey 3 Advanced Class, Thursday 7:45-8:45pm
Class will cover basic skills and advanced hockey concepts and positioning.

Fall, Winter and Spring 12 week series: $162.00 Summer: 10 week series $135.00

Youth Hockey Lessons

As with most sports, the best time to learn is when you’re young. And you’ll have plenty of opportunity to pick up the basics and advanced moves at Logitech Ice at San Jose. We have a team of highly qualified instructors who coach on-ice practices and lessons. Groups are separated based on age and ability.

Youth Hockey Lessons 1 & 2, Tuesday 4:15-5pm or Saturday 7:30-8:15amThis class is intended for children with limited experience on the ice. It will cover basic skills of skating, stickhandling, and passing.

Youth Hockey Lessons Hockey 2 & 3, Tuesday 4:15-5:00pm
Class available to older beginners (12 and up), and kids who have completed the 1&2 class. Basic skills are covered in a faster progression, as some skating ability is required.

Youth Hockey Lessons Hockey 3 & 4, Saturday 6:45-7:30am
Class is intended for older beginners (12 and up), and those who have completed the 1&2 or 2&3 classes. Class will cover basic skills, and more advanced, in-depth instruction.

2007 San Jose Sharks Summer Hockey Schools

Philosophy

The goal of the San Jose Sharks Summer Hockey Schools is to enhance player development through qualified, professional instruction and innovative, challenging programs.  The schools will focus on hockey fundamentals, skills, tactics, and systems.  Our coaches and counselors will emphasize the importance of the characteristics the Sharks expect of their NHL stars; a strong work ethic, teamwork and sportsmanship will be encouraged.  The San Jose Sharks Summer Hockey Schools mandate is to provide all of this for you, your son or your daughter in an enthusiastic and fun atmosphere.

Skills Development Camp:  June 18-22, 2007

Take your game to the next level as you train and develop with Coach Sommer – the coach that the Sharks entrust to develop their future stars!  Skills Development Camps are progressive in nature and are designed to enhance and improve hockey fundamentals, focused on skating, passing, shooting and tactical play.  This camp is great for all ability levels, and is designed for children ages 6-13.

Skills Development “Positions” Camp – Offense & Defense:  June 25-29, 2007

This camp is designed to both re-enforce the basic skating, passing & shooting skills practiced during the first Skills week, and also place extra emphasis on position specific skills.  Participants will all go through the Power Skating portion of the session together, but will then be split up for the second session to go through position specific drills (Forwards, Defensemen) with Coach Sommer and the Sharks coaching staff.  Participants will then practice these skills in a scrimmage session later that day.  This camp is a great compliment to the first week of Skills Development!

“Future Sharks Summer Cup” Small Games & Scrimmage Camp:  July 30-August 3, 2007

Designed for A/B level players & above, this camp simulates the training camp atmosphere of the popular “Pacific Division Shootout” Rookie Tournament that took place at Logitech Ice earlier this season.  Participants will be split up into teams that they will stay with for the entire camp.  Daily camp activities include a morning skate, a video/instructional session, and a round robin tournament in which the teams will compete for the coveted “Sharks Summer Cup”.  Instruction focuses on individual as well as team tactics.

 

11-13 Year Olds

Camp Billeting Program

In an effort to make Sharks Summer Hockey Schools accessible to all kids in the Bay Area and beyond, we will be offering our Camp Billeting Program again this year.  If your family is able to billet/host one child for camp this summer, the Sharks will deduct $100 from your son or daughter’s camp dues ($25 off if participating in Scrimmage Camp).  Call 408-999-6767 for details.

Hockey is ageless and so is our Adult Hockey Camp.  Coach Sommer and the rest of the Sharks Camp Staff will put you to the test with individual and team drills, in addition to a full scrimmage.  Your hockey skills and fitness level will improve after participating in this camp.

Coaching Staff

Coaches are the backbone of any successful hockey program, and this summer we have assembled out finest Summer Hockey School staff ever.  All coaches on our staff have either coached or played at the professional level, and each coach is looking forward to passing on these high level skills and tactics to you or your children.

 

Featured Coach 

Roy Sommer – Head Coach, Worchester Sharks (AHL):  Coach Sommer is currently in his sixth season as the Head Coach of the Worchester Sharks – the Sharks top development affiliate.  Besides directing a winning product on the ice, Coach Sommer is responsible for developing the Sharks young players to prepare them for the rigors of the NHL.  A native of the Bay Area, Roy has been coaching hockey camps both locally and abroad for over a decade.  This is Coach Sommer’s seventh year as the Featured Coach for Sharks Summer Hockey Schools.

 

 

 

Sharks Hockey Camp Staff:

 

David Cunniff- Assistant Coach, Worchester Sharks (AHL):  A former collegiate and professional player, David joined Coach Sommer behind the bench during the 2002-03 Season.  Coach Cunniff runs numerous development camps for Sharks prospects during the summer, where he brings a unique blend of experience and enthusiasm to the ice.  This is Coach Cunniff’s fourth season with the Sharks Summer Hockey Schools.

 

Graeme Townshend – Power Skating Coach:  Joining the Sharks Summer Camps for the fourth straight year is Graeme Townshend – Professional Scout and Power Skating Instructor for the Sharks.  Coach Townshend enjoyed a fruitful NHL playing career and has also coached at the professional level as well.

 

Derek Eisler – Director of Coaches, San Jose Jr. Sharks:  A former NHL, collegiate, and junior coach, Derek has served as the Director of Coaches for the San Jose Jr. Sharks for the past three seasons.  Derek’s strength is in developing and improving youth hockey players, and he is the lead instructor for the Small Games & Scrimmage Camp.

 

Webb Sommer – Athletic Trainer:  NATA certified since 1990, Webb Sommer brings a wealth of experience to Sharks camps including experience as a trainer with the USA Olympic Training Center, the USA Inline Hockey Team, and the Springfield Falcons of the AHL.  Currently, Webb is the Head Athletic Trainer & Instructor at Peninsula High School in Washington.

Player Placement

The San Jose Sharks Summer Hockey Schools reserve the right to place attendees in the category deemed most appropriate for his/her age, size, and skill level.

 

Refunds

All deposits, less a $25 processing fee, will be refunded if written cancellation is received one month prior to the start date of the chosen camp/clinic.  No refunds will be given if cancellation is received less than one month prior to chosen camp/clinic.

 

Equipment

Full gear is required for participation in all camps/clinics, including helmet with face cage, mouthpiece, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, shin guards, protective cup, ice hockey skates and stick.  Unfortunately, the Sharks will be unable to provide equipment for these camps/clinics.

2007 Spring/Summer Hockey Program

Practices Begin the Week of April 30, 2007

Logitech Ice at San Jose will again offer a Spring and Summer Hockey Program. The 2007 program will be available for players from mini-mite through bantam.  Players can choose the practice program, the game program, or the complete program.  Players will be placed in their 2006-2007 age divisions as shown below.

Adult Hockey League

Logitech Ice at San Jose is committed to providing the finest hockey programs. The LIAHL management stresses equal play at all levels of competition. They will scout your team for two preseason games. Based on management’s assessment, your team will be matched up with other teams of equal ability to ensure a fun and challenging experience.

Game locations, times and nights
All games will be played at Logitech Ice at San Jose on one of our four ice surfaces. The Beginner Divisions will play mostly on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. The Intermediate and Advanced Divisions will be playing mostly on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. An advance full season schedule will be issued following the two preseason games.

Season Information
Logitech Ice at San Jose Adult Hockey League offers a spring/summer league starting in April and a Winter League starting in September. Currently the LIAHL has more than 1600 players participating in over 90 teams and 12 sub-divisions. The winter season will consist of 24 games (two preseason) while the spring season will consist of 18 games (two pre-season and 16 regular season games). Following the regular season, qualifying teams will participate in a playoff tournament to determine division champions.

Team signups begin in early fall (August) for the winter season and early spring (March) for the summer season. Please take a look at the current season flyer for more information. Team space is limited, divisions are filled on a first come, first served basis. Individuals without teams who are looking to play are welcome to join our free agent list. Skill levels range from pure beginner in our EEE levels all the way up to our Advanced A level. Prior to joining the beginner league, players should complete at least one level of adult hockey lessons. Schedule averages one game per week.
